Cards win a nail-biter over the Padres in game one.
Lackey was impressive on the mound with seven innings pitched allowing only two runs scored but did not come away with the W. Instead Maness who pitched one inning and gave up no runs took it.
Jhonny Peralta scored a two run homer in the second putting the Cardinals ahead. They kept the lead until the sixth when the Padres scored on an infield single and, again, on a fielder’s choice.
The game stayed calm until the bottom of the eighth when Jay knocked in Wong and Descalso on a double. The Padres rallied one run in the ninth when Goebbert singled to right. However, Amarista was thrown out at home proving to be decisive in the 4-3 win.
Hopefully the Birds can continue this momentum as they continue the four-game series against the padres.
