Tonight, the Cardinals came out–guns blazing, to demolish the Red Sox 5-2.
Rain could not deter the spirit of the Redbirds tonight as everyone seemed to be playing their hearts out to win. The star on the diamond was Kolten Wong who recorded his first major league multi-homerun-game. In the field, he was solid also and made several impressive plays.
Waino recorded his 14th win making him the leader among all major league players this season. Outside of the third inning, Wainwright pitched exceptionally. He gave up two runs over seven solidly pitched innings leaving an easy two innings for Siegrist and Neshek to split. The latter recorded his third save as his ERA dropped to 0.76 on the season. The Cards pitchers combined for 9 k’s on the night.
Matt Adams, though solid in the field, was 0-4 at the plate. He continues a rough stretch since the All Star Break suggesting, perhaps, that his stats were a bit padded.
Overall- great win for the Cardinals. It is always nice to win a rematch of the World Series.
