Last night’s game was the embodiment of what I think this series will be: a grind.  One team jumped out in front, but in usual fashion (for either team), the game was made close after some chipping away at the lead.  Last night, the Cardinals were able to rely on a steady bullpen to grind out a big Game 1 W.  Although some Cards fans are certainly already calling for the brooms or a solid series win, those fans must be put in their place by being reminded that this will be very close.

Last night was a very close game itself.  I didn’t believe the Cards had wrapped anything up until the game was over, especially after Angel Pagan roped a 2-out single in the bottom of the ninth.  Even if the series does finish in the sweep, it will take 4 intense battles before the war is won, and the sweep is extremely unlikely.  Even if the Cards do return home up 2-0, I will not feel assured of a World Series berth.  As we saw from the Giants against the Reds, they can go on the road and beat a good team in a must win situation.  Yes, a Game 2 win today wold mean a lot, but please remember that in this series more than most, it ain’t over till it’s over.
