Like Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg, Cards RHP Adam Wainwright is in his first full season after having Tommy John Surgery. Unlike Strasburg, Wainwright will not be shut down as he approaches the 180 inning mark.
Wainwright at the moment has thrown 168 2/3 innings so far in 27 starts and is on pace to exceed 200 inning pitched. Cards manager Mike Matheny is quoted as saying”We’ve been given the ‘all progress forward’ and ‘full steam ahead’ with Adam until we see anything out of the normal.”
Wainwright once the Cardinals ace, has become a stabilizer to the Redbirds rotation which lost its ace early on this year (Chris Carpenter). The news that Wainwright won’t get shut down offers an important boost to the Cardinals World Series hopes.
