Alex Reyes is the most heralded prospect the St. Louis Cardinals’ have. He signed with the Cardinals in 2012 as a free agent coming from the Dominican Republic. In 2015 and 2016, he was unanimously voted as the #1 prospect in the organization. A strong pitcher who can overpower you at the plate, Alex consistently throws fastballs around 100 MPH. He mixes in a true “12-6” curveball to keep hitters guessing. He also throws a change up, but it is not at the same elite level as his fast ball and his curveball. In 2015, he only gave up one home run in 22 starts and 101.1 innings. His strikeout rate is extremely high as he averaged 13.4 strikeouts per 9-innings pitched last year. On November 9th 2015, Alex was suspended 50 games for testing positive for marijuana, so he will not play to begin the year. Using the 20/80 scale, Alex was rated the following: Fastball 65/70, Changeup 55/60, Curveball 55/70, Command 40/50, and Pitchability 45/55. Currently Alex is at the AA level. However, if all goes as planned and he comes back from his suspension showing similar success, it is likely that he will make his way to the big leagues by 2017.
