According to SI.com, Lance Berkman said that he had been contacted by the Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox, and the Tampa Bay Rays in regards to potentially signing him for 2013. However, he says he is reluctant to come back if the price isn’t right.

Here’s Berkman’s take, according to the Houston Chronicle.

If I’m going to hit third for a major-league team, then obviously there’s a compensation level that accompanies that. It’s just a matter whether the Astros would be willing to pay that or not. If they are not, no hard feelings. I just feel like if you are going to do a job you deserve to be paid somewhere in the ballpark where the job description entails.

While he missed nearly all of 2012 with a knee injury, Berkman did hit .301 with 94 RBIS and 31 home runs with the Cardinals in 2011. Berkman is currently volunteering as a coach for his alma mater, Rice University.
