The Cards have optioned rookie left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzales to Memphis and recalled left-handed pitcher Tyler Lyons to replace him. Gonzales has made three starts for the Cardinals, in which he posted an 0-2 record with a 7.07 ERA, since being promoted from Springfield in order to fill in for injured starters Jaime Garcia and Michael Wacha.
With regards to Lyons, he is the more experienced pitcher and has made 12 career starts for the Cardinals. Yet, he has an 0-3 record with a 6.12 ERA in four starts (six appearances) with the Cards this season. The promotion is somewhat surprising considering that Lyons recorded a 5.35 ERA in seven starts for Memphis this year.
