Reds @ Cards:
Look out, Reds, Jaime Garcia is coming in hot. In his last three starts he has given up just 4 ER over 19 innings, good enough for a 1.89 ERA. Taking the mound for the Reds is Bronson Aroyo, whose last three starts have been quite the opposite of Garcia’s. The Reds have lost all three, and over that streak Aroyo has posted a 4.05 ERA. EDGE: Cardinals
Giants @ Dodgers:
Could the Redbirds have asked for a better matchup tonight for the Dodgers? Probably not. The Giants’ Matt Cain has been absolutely stellar all year, and is further on a mini-hot streak. Over his past 20 IP, Cain has allowed just 2 ER, good enough for a 0.90 ERA. I’d say that’s pretty solid. Meanwhile for the Dodgers, Aaron Harang takes the mound. The Dodgers had lost 5 consecutive Harang starts until his last start in which he went 5.1 Innings, allowing 0 ER. If Harang’s resilience continues, however, it still doesn’t match up with the dominance of Cain. EDGE: Giants
THE SKINNY: The Cardinals have a real shot at clinching tonight, but it isn’t completely in their control. It’ll take solid execution on their part, as well as a little help from the leaders on the NL West.
