While it appears the Dodgers are currently the front-runners for Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster, the Cardinals are apparently one of the other teams that has shown interest as well, according to this tweet by CBS Sports baseball insider Jon Heyman. Adding Dempster would certainly bolster St. Louis’s rotation. The Cubs are reportedly seeking one or two young pitchers in return for the veteran right-hander, so it looks like it will just depend on which team can offer Chicago the sweetest deal. Dempster is scheduled to start tonight against the Cards, which could potentially make things very, very interesting.

CardsBlog Writer Steve Hirsch: From what I understand, the Cards are not very willing to part with their better prospects for a rental like Dempster would most likely be. I think he’d be a great addition to the team, particularly with the current streak he’s on, but I think it’s unlikely that the Cubs will trade him to a team within their division, particularly one that is not willing to give up a whole lot.
