The 2012 assistant hitting coach, John Mabry, was named the new head hitting coach on Monday for the 2013 season. This move comes after Mark McGwire left the team to become the LA Dodgers’ hitting coach after spending three seasons in St. Louis at the position.
Mabry hit .263 over a 14-year career, five of which were in St. Louis (1994-98). He also served as an analyst for the Cardinals during the 2011 season.
In other news, the Cardinals hired Blaise Illsley to be the new bullpen coach after getting rid of Dyar Miller, whose contract was not renewed for 2013. As announced several weeks ago, all other coaches are to remain the same including Derek Lilliquist, Chris Maloney, Mike Aldrete, Jose Oquendo.
