Friday News & Notes: More Musial Links, Freese Arbitration

Good Morning Cardinal Nation. Here’s what I have for you this morning:

MUSIAL LINKS/NEWS: Saturday’s funeral and memorial service for Stan Musial will be televised live on FOX Sports Midwest from 10:30 A.M. CST to approximately 1:30 P.M. It will also replay its two-hour remembrance of Musial on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 9:30 P.M. CST and Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 9 P.M.. CST.

In the meantime, check out this column from B.J. Rains and this article from Joe Strauss about the thousands of fans who showed up on Thursday for The Man. Bob Costas says that Stan batted .1000 as a person. Lastly, David Freese and Jon Jay paid their respects on Thursday.

FREESE AND ARBITRATION: Chris Duncan puts the David Freese arbitration situation in perspective. I would have to agree that they will end up around the $3 million mark, just because it makes the most sense for both sides. Freese, 29, still has to prove that he’s a player that should be paid what the big boys are paid. As great of a moment as it was, the reality is that one home run in the World Series does not, and should not, make you deserving of a huge payday. I think he should settle for $3 million, which is still a huge upgrade from $500,000, and then we’ll revisit this next year.

Will be back with more later today.
