The Cards look to split the series with the Reds on Thursday afternoon at Great American Ball Park to make it one day closer to the postseason.
Pitching Matchup: Lance Lynn (15-8, 2.80) takes the mound for the Cards after coming off a solid start against the Brewers where he gave up five hits and one earned run on the way to his 15th win. Lynn has given up no more than three earned runs in his last five starts and has pitched at least six innings in each of those games. Lynn’s strike-out count his high this year with 156 K’s compared with 67 walks.
Johnny Cueto (17-8, 2.23) continues to dominate on the bump as he is coming off two outstanding performances in his last two starts. In his last start, he gave up just one earned run to the Mets. Cueto has completed six innings in all of his last nine starts but one.
The Skinny: This pitching matchup looks to be the best of the series. Both starters have been hot as of late and are looking to keep the momentum going. The Cards offense will be tested by the nasty arsenal that Johnny Cueto possesses. Hopefully they can find their bats as each game matters more and more.
