The Pitching Matchup: Shelby Miller (10-9, 3.75 ERA) has only given up 3 runs, through 27 innings, in his last 4 starts. He has not lost a game since August 11 and has gone at least 6 innings in 8 of his last 9 starts.
Kyle Lohse (12-9, 3.81 ERA) has been 1-5 in his last 8 outings and has given up 31 runs in that period. However, he showed improvement in his last start, limiting Cincinnati to 2 runs in 6 2/3 innings, giving the Brewers the opportunity to win on a walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th.
The Skinny: Having held first place in the NL Central for most of the season, the Brewers have skid in the past few weeks and let the division get away from them. We’ll see if Lohse can help the Brewers stay alive and close in on the 2.5 game gap with Pirates, who currently hold the second wild card spot. If Miler can continue his recent run of success, the Cardinals could reduce their magic number to 7 and hopefully get hot as October closes in.
