The Cards take on the Reds at Busch Stadium on Friday.
Pitching Matchup: John Lackey (2-2, 5.05) is on the bump for the Cards as he returns from a “dead arm”. He received three days of extra rest after the Cards skipped his start on Tuesday. In his last start on September 10th, Lackey only went two innings after being ejected for arguing balls and strikes. He was roughed up in those two innings giving up two runs on four hits and two walks.
David Holmberg (1-1, 6.00) takes the mound for the Reds coming off his first career win last Saturday over the Brewers. He gave up one run on two hits and two walks in six innings of work. He has been in the MLB for less than half of the season and is still looking to get experience.
The Skinny: The Cards look to maintain control over the NL Central by facing the struggling Reds. The Reds are way out of playoff contention; hopefully the Cards can capitalize on this and prevent the Bucs from getting any closer. John Lackey needs to rebound from his short outing in his last start. His well-rested arm should add to his velocity.
