Cardinals lost last night, 1-0 against the Dodgers in an explosive pitching matchup.
It took seven and a half frames for the first run to score last night. Pitchers Adam Wainwright and Josh Beckett dueled the entire night. Both pitchers allowed five hits but a single in the 8th cost the Cardinals the game. Justin Turner, a pitch hitter, caused the lone run in the bottom of the eighth with a line drive into right field which scored Juan Uribe from third.
There were a few upsides to last night’s game. For starters, Wainwright pitched an incredible game. The Cardinal defense cannot be blamed for the loss especially given the incredible play of Allen Craig who made an impressive diving catch. The Cardinals kept the hot-headed Yasiel Puig (.309) at bay with no hits in four at bats.
Last night’s match was the first in a four game set against the Dodgers, who matched the Cardinals almost perfectly in wins and losses before last night’s game. The Cardinals cannot expect too many runs over this series as they will face Kershaw and Hyun-jin Ryu at some point in the series. Both are having exceptional seasons.
Tonight’s game time is 6:15 (CST) in LA for game two of four.
