Game Recap: Cards Pull Through to win Close 2-1 Game Against the Reds

The Bottom Line:
John Lackey (13-9, 3.97 ERA) was strong on the mound, going 7.2 innings and giving up 1 run on 6 hits while striking out 5 and walking none.  The Cardinals’ offensive attack started out strong with a pair of first inning homers from Randal Grichuk and Matt Holliday, but those turned out to be the only runs the Cards would score for the rest of the game.  However, the efficiency of both Lackey and the bullpen kept the Cardinals in the game.

Postseason Push: With the Pirates on a 5 game winning streak and only 2.5 games behind the Cardinals, the Cardinals really need to keep the intensity up and play hard to stave off the pesky Pirates.

What’s Next?: Michael Wacha (5-6, 3.14 ERA) returns to  the mound to face off against Mike Leake (11-12, 3.65 ERA) tomorrow at 6:15 CST.
