If the Cards can take 3 of 4 from the Dodgers after maintaining their Wild Card lead over the next few days while playing the Padres, their next nine games are against the Astros and the Cubs, and they would then have the opportunity to run away with the Wild Card race with less than 10 games to go. If they do in fact take three from the Dodgers, they would find themselves 3.5 games ahead, with the very real possibility of winning 7-9 of the next nine games. While the Cardinals face a very easy schedule, the Dodgers’ six games after the Cards series are against the Nationals and Reds, two of the top teams in all of baseball. If the Redbirds can pounce on this opportunity, they could find themselves with a 5 to 7 game lead over the second wild card. Knock on wood.
