TR Sullivan wrote this morning that the Rangers are unlikely to pursue free agents Kyle Lohse or Michael Bourn, who has been rumored to be targeted by the Mets.

Kyle Lohse

At this point, your guess is as good as mine as to where Lohse ends up. I still think it’s highly unlikely that he returns to the Cardinals. Mozeliak said at Winter Warm-Up that he hasn’t spoken to Lohse in a few months, and I just think both parties have come to an agreement that they will not be working with each other in the future.

The Rangers seemed like a logical choice, considering Lance Berkman signed with them a couple weeks ago and Kyle McClellan signed a minor league deal with them just last week. Now that it seems like they’re not in the running anymore, I don’t know what to tell you. I feel as if most teams are done with their heavy spending for the offseason, which pretty much leaves the L.A. Dodgers as the only team you can never count out to spend a little bit more these days.

This is of course, at least partially, a result of the new CBA, which is causing teams to be very careful with their free agent signings as draft picks have become that much more valuable.
