He’s back folks  — first baseman Lance Berkman has convinced manager Mike Matheny that rehab games are unnecessary that he should work his way back into the lineup at the Major League level.

According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Berkman will be activated at some point during the Cardinals’ six-game road trip to begin the season.

UPDATE: Not news, but I thought I would answer someone’s question by saying that a player is not required to accept a rehab assignment. Though the team suggested it and was definitely pushing for Berkman to make an appearance in Springfield, Berkman has every right to refuse it and work his rehab out in the Majors.
