News: Berkman To The Astros?

According to ESPN.com, Lance Berkman met with Houston Astros owner Jim Crane last week to discuss a possible return to the Astros for the 2013 season. Berkman struggled through an injury-plagued 2012 season with the Cards, and general manager John Mozeliak has already admitted there is little chance Berkman will be a Cardinal next season. The move back to Houston makes sense for Berkman in many ways: He would be going home to Texas where he was born, played college baseball, and spent 12 years of his professional career; he could also serve as the Astros’ designated hitter with the team moving to the AL West in 2013, which will help Berkman after coming off an entire season of knee issues; finally, the Astros have arguably the lowest expectations for any team in the majors, meaning that Berkman won’t have to rush his way back from his knee rehabilitation the way he might have had to in order to fight for a starting role on the Cards. Regardless of what happens, good luck Lance and get well soon.
