The Cardinals traded former first-round draft pick Tyler Greene on Thursday to the Houston Astros for a player to be named later of cash considerations.
In Wednesday’s 15-0 loss, Greene went 0-for-3 and committed an error, prompting the crowd to boo him heavily. In 179 at-bats this season, Greene hit .218 with 15 extra-base hits, 19 RBIs and nine stolen bases. He also struck out 56 times.
According to Jeniffer Langosch, discussions between the Cardinals and Astros went on for a few days before the trade was completed. The Astros initiated discussions by claiming Greene off waivers. Greene is set to join the Astros in Houston on Thursday night. More details to follow.
