Nick Plummer was drafted by the Cardinals 23rd overall in the 2015 MLB draft. Recently, he was ranked the eighth best prospect in the Cardinals’ farm system. He was given the following rates by Baseball Prospectus: Hit 55, Power 30, Speed 60, Glove 55, Arm 40. Last year, in rookie ball, Nick played 51 games and batted .228 with 22 RBIs. With a quick and strong bat, the Cardinals are hopeful that Nick can one day hit for both power and average. Currently, he plays centerfield; however, many scouts doubt that, with his lack of elite speed, he will be a corner outfielder in the future. Only one year out of high school, at only 19 years old, Nick has plenty of time to grow. He is likely to play at the Gulf Coast League again in 2016 and, hopefully, with a full season of work, he can make the Cardinals’ fans excited about his potential. I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t see Nick at the Major League Level until after 2019.
