Randal was born and raised in Rosenberg, Texas. He was born and bred on
America’s favorite pastime and found himself in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the
Crowd” section during his little league career. During this time he also appeared in
two Little League World Series. While committed to attend the University of
Arizona, he was not able to pass up the chance to turn pro when The Los Angeles
Angels drafter him with the 24th overall pick in the 2009 draft, one slot ahead of
Mike Trout. He played within the Angels system for 5 years before being traded to
the Cardinals in 2013 where he has served for the past 3 years.

Grichuk offers the most potential for power in the Cardinal’s lineup. However with
this approach comes a higher than average strike-out rate. This makes sense when
you look at Randal’s batted ball speed: tops on the team and ranking highly across
all of baseball and helps to explain his raw power. He couples this prowess at the
plate with excellent tools in the field. He grades above average with both his speed,
glove, and arm, and offers plenty of value no matter the outfield position he finds
himself playing. What’s most exciting for Grichuk is his ability for growth. Already
having posted a 3+ win season despite battling injuries most of last season, Randal
is regarded as part of the future core for the Cards.
