Cardinals Reason #13: Great Spring for Grichuk

Randal Grichuk has been a Machine for the Redbirds in Spring Training, so Cardinals fans Should be Pumped to Watch Him Thrive in 2016

Can you believe it?!?!? We are LESS THAN TWO WEEKS until Opening Day! The Cardinals will be back on the diamond before you know it, and if you’re not excited about the upcoming season already, then there’s something wrong with you. BUT, do not fear, as I have another reason to get pumped for Cardinals baseball in 2016, and his name is Randal Grichuk.

Yes, I know that Sam wrote an article for Day #27 about Grichuk, but the Cardinals outfielder has performed so well in Spring Training that I decided to remind Redbird nation about the young slugger. We all know that Grichuk has a ton of potential and could lead the outfield for years to come, but his spring performance has solidified those beliefs and more.

So far, Grichuk is hitting .414 (no, that’s not a typo) with one home run, four RBIs, five doubles, and only seven strikeouts compared to twelve hits. His 12-for-29 spring has him atop the batting average rankings for the Cardinals, ahead of his companion in the outfield, Stephen Piscotty. Grichuk has also been flashing the leather in center field, gunning down runners and making spectacular plays with his glove.

If Grichuk can continue to have a successful Spring Training and keep this positive momentum that he has built up so far, he will be a force to be reckoned with for the club this season. While Piscotty and Matt Holliday are the more prover hitters in the outfield, Grichuk could potentially surpass the both of them this season. If he can hit for power and make great plays in the outfield, he will instantly become a fan favorite in St. Louis.

Health has been a major issue for Grichuk, so that is obviously his biggest obstacle headed into the new season. If he can put together a full season, however, Cardinals fans will be able to get to know him and his style of play. While Grichuk already possesses a certain level of familiarity with the fanbase, I feel that one breakout month or couple of months will propel him to the top of the rankings on this roster.

Grichuk has so much potential, and he’s showing us so far this spring. If he continues at this pace in the regular season, Cardinals fans will get to be a part of history. If he falls just short, Cardinals fans will still get to enjoy one heck of a ride.
