Summary

• Sam Tuivailala is a 19 year-old RHP from San Mateo, California. • Tuivailala is ranked #10 on the Cardinals’ Top 30 Prospects List • Tuivailala was a three-sport athlete in high school, playing baseball, basketball, and football (quarterback). • Tuivailala was drafted straight out of high school by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 3rd Round of the 2010 MLB Draft. • After making it to professional ball, Tuivailala had to make a switch from third base to pitching, where he projected as a relief pitcher. • Tuivailala’s fastball is by far the best pitch he possesses, as it gets an 80 out of 80 from MLB scouts. His heater sits in the 97-98 MPH range, and has consistently blazed by hitters in the minor leagues. • Complimenting his fastball, Tuivailala throws a curveball, nasty slider, and a changeup that could still use some development. • Tuivailala made his MLB debut on September 9, 2014 in Cincinnati against the Reds. • Tuivailala has had a very impressive minor league career thus far, but he has had a lot of struggles in the MLB due to his poor command. Once he is able to improve the command of basically all of his pitches, he can close a lot of games for the Cardinals.  o Fortunately, the Cardinals have some time for Tuivailala to develop at AAA Memphis while Trevor Rosenthal closes things down in St. Louis
