Good Morning Cardinal Nation. Today is a very sad day for Cardinals’ fans all over the country. Stan Musial was not only the greatest Cardinal to ever play the game, but he was one of the best players to every play the game of baseball. We will have any and all Stan related news and material on CardsBlog all day long. There is a lot of stuff on this, so it will come pretty sporadically, but I’m going to do my best.
Some basic notes to start off:
— Musial died at 5:45 P.M. on Saturday due to natural causes at the age of 92. He was surrounded by his family at the time.
— Here is the Stan Musial tribute page on Cardinals.com.
— Bill DeWitt: “We have lost the most beloved member of the Cardinals family.”
— There is a memorial site around Gate 3 at Busch Stadium, where the Musial statue is located.
— Here’s a pretty full and incredible obituary from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
— Here is a video from MLB.com recapping Musial’s career.
— Bob Costas: “All Musial represents is more than two decades of sustained excellence and complete decency as a human being.”
— Watch Musial’s HOF induction speech in 1969.
— Here’s the front page of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch this morning. Very classy.
