Lance Berkman, Who Is Rumored To Be Talking With The Texas Rangers

Good Morning Cardinal Nation. Here’s what I have for you this morning:

— Derrick Goold discusses the added cost of signing Kyle Lohse to a free agent deal

Essentially, because of the new CBA, giving up draft picks is a little more expensive than it used to be. Goold does a very nice job of breaking it down, definitely worth reading if you are unaware of the details.

Lance Berkman is again talking about a 2013 return, this time with the Texas Rangers

I have a certain amount of respect for Berkman that he says money is probably the biggest factor in whether or not he returns, as he admittedly says he would have a hard time making that type of money in any type profession. I do think it would be a little strange if, of all teams, he ends up with the Rangers, don’t you?

— Here’s a video of Bryan Burwell and Derrick Goold discussing the Cardinals’ first year without Albert Pujols

At the end of the day, it obviously did not seem to be quite as destructive a decision as we might have originally thought. There is no doubt that Albert is 100% an irreplaceable player, but you have to give John Mozeliak because he made it work. Carlos Beltran and Allen Craig had terrific seasons, and now they have all of that money that they would have spent on Pujols to, for starters, extend Adam Wainwright‘s contract. Pujols is one of the best hitters in baseball, and it’s still irritating to me that he’s not in that lineup every day, but in regards to making good baseball decisions, so far it seems to have worked out just fine.

Andrew Brown, who was drafted by the Cardinals in 2007 and played 11 games with the team in 2011, signed a minor league deal with the New York Mets

— Cards Diaspora found a College Humor video featuring David Freese and Jon Jay. This is actually pretty hilarious…

— Lastly, here is a picture of a Carlos Beltran bobblehead for a promotion to be given away on April 28
