According to Jon Heyman and other sources, Ronny Cedeno is headed to the Cardinals.  Cedeno has a career .247 batting average and .290 OBP. In 2012, he hit .259 with 4 HRs and 22 RBIs in 76 games. Regardless of what I said a couple of days ago, I’m assuming Mozeliak managed to sign him pretty cheaply and it’s never a bad thing to have more depth in any position. I am wondering though if this is a sign that Kolten Wong may not be as Major League ready as we might think. More details on this story as it develops.

2:55 PM: Ken Rosenthal reports that the Ronny Cedeno deal is a one-year Major League deal.

3:45 PM: B.J. Rains reports that the Cardinals have designated LHP Barret Browning for assignment. Browning was 1-3 with a 5.12 ERA in 2012 over 19.1 innings.

3:49 PM: The deal with Cedeno is worth $1.15 million with $850,000 in incentives, putting it at a maximum of $2 million.
