John Jay and Matt Holliday celebrate after a victory

How the tables have turned here in the NL Central!  A week ago, the Cards were sitting tied with the Brewers for first place.  Now the Cards are five games ahead of the Brewers.  The Brewers have moved down to third place with the Pirates 4.5 games behind the Cards.  Here’s how we got here:

Monday (9/1): The Cards squeeze out a 5-4 victory over the Bucs as Kolten Wong delivers a pinch-hit home run.

Tuesday (9/2): The Cards beat the Pirates for their fourth win in a row with a 6-4 victory.  Adam Wainwright came through with 3 RBIs at the dish and picked up his 16th win.

Wednesday (9/3): The Cards sweep the Bucs with a walk-off single from Peter Bourjos in the bottom of the ninth, making the game 1-0.  Shelby Miller pitched an excellent game but received a no decision as Trevor Rosenthal got the win.

Thursday (9/4): The Cards beat the Brewers 3-2 with outstanding defense from Peter Bourjos and John Jay.  This was Michael Wacha’s first game off the DL as he gave three innings of solid work.

Friday (9/5): The Brewers snap their 9-game losing streak as they beat the Cards 6-2.  Mike Fiers dominated the game for the Brew Crew as John Lackey got the loss.

Saturday (9/6): The Cards get back on track with a 5-3 win over former Cardinal, Kyle Lohse, and the Brewers.  Oscar Taveras and Matt Adams both hit home runs.

Sunday (9/7): The Cards knock the Brewers down to third place with a dominating performance from Adam Wainwright, defeating the Brewers 9-1.  Wainwright pitched a complete game and received his 17th win.
