Yadier Molina, more commonly known as Yadi amongst Cardinals faithful, is an essential member of the Cardinals team. Hailing from Puerto Rico, Yadi is part of a rich baseball family. He has two older brothers who have served time in the major leagues and his father has earned a spot in the Puerto Rican baseball hall of fame. He is a vocal leader for this Cardinals club. Drafted in 2000 during the fourth round, current manager and former catcher Mike Matheny has been quoted as saying he “saw the kids that’s going to steal his job.”

As A Player

Position: Catcher
Bats: R   Throws: R
Slash: .283/.336/.397

One cannot talk about Yadi without recognizing he might be the greatest defensive catcher of our generation. The way in which he manages the staff shows an amazing understanding for the game, and speaks to the mass amounts of work he puts in before games to prepare detailed reports on how to pitch to each opposing hitter. Whenever he is behind the plate, the team ERA significantly decreases, and he does an excellent job preventing opposing baserunners from stealing bases. As a batter his contact skills improved to an area of strength, and while he doesn’t provide much power, Yadi is an excellent clutch hitter as prover by his postseason track record. He will be coming back from a thumb surgery so it should be interesting to see how his recovery affects his game.
